Vol. 200 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Naas Housing Site.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received from the Kildare County Manager a proposal for a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of land at Naas for the purpose of providing houses; and if he will state the date on which the proposal was received and the cause of the delay in approving it.

A compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of approximately 5½ acres of land at Naas for housing purposes was received in my Department on 6th July, 1961.

Objections having been made against the confirmation of the order, a public local inquiry was held on the 12th December, 1961.

The report of the inspector indicated that the evidence tendered at the inquiry was not sufficient to enable a decision to be made by me. The inquiry was accordingly reopened on the 28th September, 1962, to obtain further evidence. This further evidence and the inspector's report are now being examined and I hope to be able to issue a decision at an early date.

Having regard to the long delay since the application was approved and the order was first made, and the fact that this building land is urgently required for housing, will the Minister endeavour to convey his decision at an early date?

There will be no delay, as far as I am concerned, that can be avoided.

There has been quite a long delay up to the present.

Not all of it was mine.
