Vol. 204 No. 1

Committee on Finance. - Registration of Business Names Bill, 1963—Referred to Special Committee.

I move:

That the Registration of Business Names Bill, 1963, be referred to the former Special Committee on the Companies Bill, 1962, and that the first meeting of the Committee be held on 10th July, 1963.

Can one send it to the same Committee or must the House appoint a Special Committee for this Bill consisting of the same members?

The former Committee, the same members.

I think we must send this to a Select Committee and then we ask the Committee of Selection to name the same people.

I understand the Bill is being referred to the former Special Committee on the Companies Bill.

No, we are not a former Committee; we are still there.

I understand that there are precedents for this motion.

How can the word "former" be used when the Committee is not discharged?

Formerly appointed.

"Formerly" or "formally"?

Perhaps I may regret it. I have moved that the Bill be referred to the Special Committee that was set up on the Companies Bill, 1962 and that the first meeting of the Committee be held on 10th July, 1963.

That is what I want to get; in fact, the way it should be done. The Minister is aware that on the day of that first meeting, the Finance Bill will possibly be on and it may be necessary that day to fix another day rather than to take it then?

Yes, I have given an undertaking to that effect.

I do not want the Minister to repeat the undertaking.

Question put and agreed to.
