Vol. 207 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valuation of Premises.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the implementation of section 5 of the Valuation (Ireland) Act, 1854 has deterred many people from making improvements to their premises; and if in view of the great damage to the housing policy of the Government attributable to this section he will take the necessary steps to have the operation of the section suspended pending a general revaluation.

I am not aware that the implementation of the section referred to has deterred many people from making improvements to their premises, and I do not accept that it has caused damage to the housing policy of the Government. The answer to the last part of the Deputy's question is in the negative.

Is that pending a general revaluation or a general election?

The Deputy's Party opposed a general revaluation in 1938.
