Vol. 212 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Force in Cyprus.

8.

asked the Minister for Defence the cost of preparing the Irish peace force to be sent to Cyprus, and the cost of maintaining the force in Cyprus to the nearest available date.

The cost of preparing the Irish contingents which have been sent to Cyprus to date is approximately £50,500. It is not practicable to give the full cost of maintaining the Irish troops in Cyprus as the cost of rations and other items of expenditure which arise in Cyprus is borne by the United Nations. The amount of overseas allowances to troops serving in Cyprus paid by my Department up to the end of last month was £255,791.
