Vol. 215 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal Mining Undertakings.

44.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of undertakings engaged in coal mining in the State and their situation; and the total number of workers engaged in each undertaking (i) when the mines are in full production, and (ii) at a current date.

The latest figures available in my Department indicate that in February, 1965, there were eleven undertakings, employing 1,268 persons, engaged in coal mining in this country; of these, four were in the Leinster coalfield, one in the Tipperary coalfield and six in the Connaught coalfield. It would not be appropriate for me to give employment figures in respect of individual undertakings.
