Vol. 216 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvements in Employment Conditions.

25.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the four years 1961-64 the number of improvements in conditions of employment granted to employees of (i) Córas Iompair Éireann and (ii) the Electricity Supply Board (a) without stoppages of work, and (b) as a consequence of stoppages of work or threatened stoppages of work.

I have not in my Department the information which the Deputy seeks.

Would the Minister make efforts to obtain this information for his Department, having regard to the very high incidence of labour difficulties in State-sponsored companies and the importance to the economy of the largest employers in the State showing a better example in industrial relations than has been given by State-sponsored bodies?

This type of information is not collected but the Deputy will appreciate that his question as to what was granted as a result of negotiation and what was granted as a result of threat would hardly be easy to define.

Even if the classification cannot be obtained, would the Minister not endeavour to obtain for the purpose of working out a better industrial relations policy, the basic information which is sought, that is, the number of industrial disputes in State-sponsored companies in recent years?

I do not know if that is available. I will see if it is.

That question should have been asked of the Minister for Transport and Power.

Then you would get no answer at all to it.
