Vol. 219 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advertisement in French Newspaper.

2.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether the Irish Embassy in Paris was concerned in producing the advertisement in the paper Le Monde setting out the attractions of this country for the foreign investor and indicating that there is a real possibility in Ireland of discovering a haunted house; whether this is considered to be good for the image of this country abroad; what was the cost of this advertisement; and whether any other continental papers carried similar advertisements.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative. The advertisement referred to was inserted by the Industrial Development Authority, which does not come within my Department's responsibilities.

The Industrial Development Authority?

The Industrial Development Authority.

And it did advertise the fact that one could find a haunted house in this country?

Mr. O'Malley

You could too.

Mr. Tully

Whatever about haunted houses, we have no use for ghost industries.

You do not attract attention by advertisements in the form of Board of Works invitations for tenders.

So we should advertise our ghosts?

As long as it works, it is all right.
