Vol. 219 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Tenant Purchase Scheme.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider a tenant purchase scheme for existing tenants of Dublin Corporation; and, if so, what the position will be in relation to loans and grants.

The formulation of proposals for a tenant-purchase scheme is a matter for the corporation in the first instance. The question of loans or grants does not arise as purchase is normally by way of long term lease and the consideration is paid by instalments over a number of years without payment of a capital sum.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say what is the position regarding Government subsidies in the event of the corporation deciding to implement a tenant purchase scheme?

The Parliamentary Secretary heard that before, today.

In relation to the rent?

Yes, the interest charges.

They cannot do anything under the old Act. Under the new Bill, they can do it all right.
