Leinster House Extension.
30.
asked the Minister for Finance when it is expected that the new extension to Leinster House will be ready for use; and if he will state (a) the estimated cost and (b) the expenditure to date.
The five office floors of the new block will, it is expected, be completed about April next. The kitchen and restaurants on the ground floor should be structurally complete about the same time but it will not be possible to have all the kitchen equipment installed for some weeks afterwards.
The new block forms part of the contract for the major scheme of alterations and additions at present in progress. The entire scheme, which is now estimated to cost approximately £650,000 also includes:—
(1) a new central heating station serving the State group of buildings in the Kildare Street-Merrion Street area,
(2) improvements to the Press block,
(3) a new electrical switch-room at Kildare Place,
(4) new car-parks on Leinster Lawn,
(5) alterations to the main entrance hall area,
(6) alterations to the existing restaurant and bars and to the rooms off the curved corridor,
(7) the new gallery over the Dáil staircase and a new link corridor around the Dáil Chamber at first floor level, and
(8) a new lift in the spiral staircase.
The whole scheme will, it is hoped, be finished by the end of 1966.
The total expenditure to date is about £440,000.
