Vol. 225 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Building Appeal.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether an oral inquiry into the appeal lodged by a firm against the refusal of Dublin Corporation to grant permission for the building of dwelling houses on a site reserved as an open space has been held; and if not, when he proposes to arrange for the holding of this inquiry.

The date for the oral hearing of this appeal, originally fixed for 22nd July, 1966, was postponed at the request of the appellants until after the end of this month. A new date has not yet been arranged.

Is the Minister unaware of the growing dissatisfaction on the part of residents in this area because of the delay in disposing of this matter? Would he indicate whether the applicants, that is, the Gallagher group, are considering withdrawing their appeal?

I do not know whether or not they intend to withdraw. All I know is it has been postponed at their request.

Will the Minister indicate when he will hold this inquiry? There are 400 families in the area who are affected by this and the development of the area in accordance with local authority planning is being held up by the appeal by this particular group interested only in their own profit.

I expect it will be held early next month.
