Vol. 225 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Area Development Proposals.

28.

asked the Minister for Education if any information is supplied to his Department, by either the Department of Local Government or the local authorities, with regard to proposals to develop areas for residential and local authority housing purposes; and if he will give the nature and extent of such information.

Mr. O'Malley

The local authorities notify my Department either directly or through the appropriate school managers or a diocesan committee of proposals to develop areas for residential or local authority housing purposes. Generally the first information made available contains tentative details only of the house building proposals.

The Department subsequently through direct correspondence or through its inspectors obtains exact details when available, of the number and type of houses to be erected before deciding definitely the school accommodation requirements to be met.
