asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of office space leased from private persons by Government Departments in the Dublin area; whether any such space has been leased for a period of 20 years or over; and, if so, if he will state the premises involved and the reasons for leasing for such periods.

The premises which have been leased for a period of 20 years or over are indicated by an asterisk.
The length of lettings of premises such as those in question is not determinable by any single factor. In some cases the landlord may insist on a letting for a period specified by him; in others the term can depend on considerations such as the age and condition of a building, its general suitability for the service concerned and the likely duration of the service.
Has the Parliamentary Secretary included in the tabular statement the reason for leasing for such periods?
The whole reply will be more intelligible if the tabular statement is read first and the latter part read in conjunction with it.
