Vol. 226 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - UN Gallantry Medals.

31.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is in a position to make any statement on the award of medals for gallantry to members of the Defence Forces in respect of service under UN command.

A Board of Officers appointed in accordance with Defence Force Regulations to examine recommendations for awards in respect of acts of bravery or gallantry or distinguished service has recommended that the Distinguished Service Medal be awarded to 65 members of the Permanent Defence Force arising out of service with the United Nations Force in the Congo. I have decided to accept the Board's recommendations.

The names of the members to whom the Medal is being awarded will be published shortly.
