Vol. 226 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rehousing of Dublin Tenants.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government what plans his Department have for the rehousing of the people who will be displaced as a result of the proposed extension of the runways at Dublin Airport.

It is a matter for the housing authority in the first instance to formulate proposals for the rehousing of these tenants. Dublin County Council requested my Department last October to arrange to have eight dwellings in the Ballymun scheme made available for this purpose. I did not accept that this proposal was a suitable one for the rehousing of these particular tenants and I arranged for consultations between my Department, the council and the Department of Transport and Power with a view to evolving a more suitable proposal. These consultations are still proceeding. I also arranged, in view of the particular circumstances of these tenants that their wishes as to rehousing should be consulted and a meeting between them and officers of the council and my Department has already taken place.
