Vol. 227 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Fertilisers.

61.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state for each of the years 1960 to 1967 inclusive (a) the wholesale prices per unit of fertilisers manufactured in this country, including superphosphate, nitrogen, potash etc.; (b) the duty or tariffs on imported fertilisers and the prices of these f.o.b. Irish ports; and (c) the increase, if any, in the State subsidy or grant on fertilisers paid to the farming community.

Information is not readily available regarding the wholesale prices of fertilisers or the prices of imported fertilisers f.o.b. Irish ports.

I understand that in June, 1961, the subsidy on potash fertilisers was increased from £4 per ton to £5 per ton, and that from 1st November, 1966, the subsidy on phosphatic fertilisers was increased from £5 4s per ton to £5 12s per ton to offset increases in manufacturers' prices.

As the particulars of the Customs duties on imported fertilisers are in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate the statement in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:
