Vol. 230 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Attendance Officer.

33.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that male and female school attendance officers have hitherto received the same scale of remuneration; but that in applying the tenth round increase men received £1 and women received 15/-; and if he will ensure that women receive the full £1 increase.

The application of the tenth round in the case of these officers raised a number of general questions. I hope that these questions will be determined very shortly and I will then announce my decision in the matter.

Is the Minister aware that the duties and conditions of employment of all male and female school attendance officers are the same; and that prior to this, when any increase was granted to male staff, a similar increase was given to the female staff? Is he further aware that the Dublin City Manager approved of a similar increase for both male and female staff, also that the Minister for Local Government agreed that where positions are open to both male and female labour—if they were appointed prior to 1964—the same rates of increase would apply? Would he bear this in mind and also remember that the total number of female staff is now seven, so that it would not cost very much?
