Vol. 230 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Hospital Buildings.

42.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received application from Cork Health Authority for permission to erect ancillary buildings at Mallow county hospital; and when this permission will be granted.

Proposals submitted by Cork Health Authority for improvements at Mallow County Hospital have been under examination in my Department. As very considerable expenditure is involved it has been necessary to consider these proposals in some detail. I expect, however, to be in a position shortly to convey my decision to the health authority.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received application from Cork Health Authority for permission to erect ancillary buildings at Youghal mental hospital; and when this permission will be granted.

There are no proposals before my Department for the erection of new buildings at Youghal Mental Hospital other than a permanent boilerhouse. This project is linked with a scheme for the provision of central heating services at the mental hospital. The plans for the central heating services have been approved and contract documents are awaited from the health authority. The boilerhouse plan is being modified by the health authority and revised documents are awaited by my Department.

There is a further scheme of improvements proposed by the health authority for the mental hospital, comprising the reconstruction of sanitary annexes, the provision of new bathrooms and improvements to the main dining hall. My Department has already approved of the detailed sketch plans for this scheme and the health authority have been asked to submit the working drawings and an estimate of cost. I understand that the health authority expect to be in a position to furnish these documents very soon.

Assuming that no exceptional difficulties arise it should be possible to invite tenders for the schemes early in the new year.
