Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Limerick Development.

39.

asked the Minister for Finance if he proposes to establish a development team in West Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As West Limerick is an area of small farms adjoining Kerry, West Cork and Clare, where there are development teams, the Government has agreed to the establishment of a county development team for this region also.

A county development team consists of the county manager, chairman of the county council, county engineer, county agricultural officer and the chief educational officer, assisted by a full time secretary. A grant is made available by my Department to each team to defray expenses. Each team is in close touch with a committee representing all the departments concerned which ensures full co-operation between all services.

Development teams are proving very effective in stimulating and assisting local initiative in economic development. I am confident that the new team will be equally successful in West Limerick.

Would the Minister state if he has received reports from secretaries of the development teams already in existence and, if he has received reports, have they been published?

The question relates to West Limerick.

There are different sorts of reports. Perhaps the Deputy is referring to the survey in each county being carried out by the development team. Is that what the Deputy has in mind?

Some of these are completed and some of them are not.
