Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Drugs Advisory Board.

71.

asked the Minister for Health if, in relation to the vacancy for a secretary advertised by the National Drugs Advisory Board he will state the number of applications received; whether an appointment has been made; and, if so, what was the method of selection.

72.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the post of secretary to the National Drugs Advisory Board was advertised about two months ago; and that persons who applied at that time were informed recently that the post had been filled; how many applicants there were for the post; and what was the method of selection.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 71 and 72 together.

Vacancies on the staff of the National Drugs Advisory Board, including that of secretary, must be adequately publicised and filled on the basis of a recommendation of a selection committee comprising at least one member of the Board. In addition appointment to the office of secretary is subject to my prior approval.

I am informed that the Board received 34 applications in reply to the recent advertisement for the post of secretary and that the proper selection procedure was followed. No recommendation for an appointment has yet been made by the Board. I am aware that some applicants were informed that the post had been filled. These notifications were issued in error.
