Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

9.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and names of the group water supply schemes applied for to date in County Kerry; and what schemes were completed during the last financial year.

During the financial year 1966-67 schemes for 13 houses at Kilcummin, Killarney, and for seven houses at Baslikane, Waterville were completed. The other information requested by the Deputy is being compiled and will be forwarded to him.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are proposals before his Department from Waterford County Council for a supply of water for the residents of Glasha, Beehive and Kilmanahan, County Waterford.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for provision of piped water to the residents of Kilmanahan village in the Waterford County Council area; and what steps he intends to take with regard to this matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

The proposal of Waterford County Council for a water supply scheme for Kilmanahan village was received in my Department on 7th instant and is at present under examination.

There are no proposals before my Department for a water supply for Beehive or Glasha.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a water supply will be made available to the residents of Emly, County Tipperary in the near future.

This scheme, together with a number of other regional water supply schemes in County Tipperary and elsewhere, is included in a review of regional schemes generally, which is being carried out by sanitary authorities throughout the country. A decision on the scheme must await the outcome of this review.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give any indication as to when work will commence on the Castlecove water supply scheme, County Kerry.

I am informed by Kerry County Council that the work is expected to start next month.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the new water supply scheme for Kilgarvan, County Kerry, where the present scheme is quite inadequate.

There has been no change in the position as regards this scheme since my reply to the Deputy's question of 26th July last, when I informed him that there was no proposal before my Department in the matter.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the provision of a water supply scheme for the very important tourist area of Caherdaniel, County Kerry.

There has been no change in the position as regards this scheme since my reply to the Deputy's question of 26th April last when I informed him that there were no proposals before my Department in the matter.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the long-awaited water supply scheme for Templenoe, County Kerry.

A decision on the Templenoe scheme must await the outcome of the general review of water and sewerage schemes which is at present being carried out by sanitary authorities throughout the country.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for the extension of the sewerage scheme at Charlestown, County Mayo, with particular reference to the extension on the Kilmovee, Kilkelly road; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand from Mayo County Council that revised contract documents for the Charlestown/Bellaghy scheme are in course of preparation. The technical details for the extension referred to by the Deputy were approved in August, 1966, subject to the length of the sewer being reduced to 190 yards.

Would the Minister take steps to ensure that this extension is undertaken as early as possible? This has been hanging fire for a long number of years, and the people resident there are seriously inconvenienced.

It cannot be undertaken without the contract documents being prepared.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Waterville to Spunkane sewerage scheme, County Kerry.

The proposal of Kerry County Council for a sewerage extension to Spunkane Road, Waterville, was approved by me on 9th October, 1967.
