Vol. 232 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax Content of Petrol Price.

43.

asked the Minister for Finance what percentage of the retail selling price of a gallon of petrol goes to revenue at present.

The answer is in the form of a tabular statement and I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

PETROL

The bulk of petrol consumed is home-refined and is charged with excise duty as shown above. The customs duty on imported petrol is 3s 9.95d a gallon. In the case of petrol which is charged with customs duty at this rate, the figures in the final column above would be about 1.4 per cent higher.
