Vol. 233 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Limerick Dual Carriageways.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of long-term proposals under consideration by Limerick Corporation and Limerick County Council for the provision of dual carriageways in their areas; and if he is satisfied that such improvements are necessary.

I am advised by Limerick Corporation, who are the responsible road authority for the city, that they are having a traffic survey carried out at present and are not in a position at this stage to indicate if they will have any dual carriageways to propose for their area. I am informed by Limerick County Council, who are the responsible road authority for County Limerick, that present indications are that widening and improvement to dual carriageway standard will be required within the next five to ten years on the following routes:—

T.11

Limerick-Ennis.

T.11

Limerick-Patrickswell.

T.5

Limerick-Dublin (to Newport junction).

No proposals for schemes have been submitted to my Department. The formulation of such proposals would be a matter for the road authorities. Pending receipt and examination of any such proposals, I am not in a position to offer an opinion as to the design standard appropriate for adoption in relation to the improvement of each of the routes referred to. The Deputy may rest assured, however, that all relevant factors are taken into account in the examination of any such proposals.
