Vol. 236 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages and Holidays of Agricultural Workers.

18.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if it is his intention to introduce and publish the proposed measure to amend the agricultural workers' wages and holidays legislation before the Dáil rises for the summer recess.

: I doubt if this will be possible but the proposed measure will be available for the beginning of next session.

: Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that his Minister informed me two months ago that the proposed legislation would be introduced in the House in a matter of weeks and will he say why this change has now taken place?

: I would like to quote for the Deputy verbatim what the Minister said on that occasion. He said “I hope it will be, but I am not quite sure.” That was the reply on 19th June.

: Has the Parliamentary Secretary got the reply to the supplementary question I asked the Minister?

: I am afraid not.

: If he had, he would be aware that the Minister was specific about weeks. He said not months but weeks. I am not surprised, however, that the legislation has not been introduced.
