Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway School.

40.

asked the Minister for Education what plans he has, if any, for the provision of a new secondary school at Athenry, County Galway.

No proposal for the provision of a new school building has been received in my Department from the secondary school authorities at Athenry. Extensions by way of prefabricated classrooms have been provided at that school in 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968 with the aid of a grant from the Department of 70 per cent of the cost.

Is the Minister aware that due to the fact that his Department under his predecessor closed down other schools and amalgamated them with the Athenry school the Athenry school at the moment is not capable of facilitating the number of pupils who attend that school?

I would be glad to hear from the people concerned.

I will bring any complaint to the Minister's notice.

We are anxious to have extension and expansion in that particular post-primary centre.

You should be because you closed down schools there.

We are anxious and waiting to hear from them and if the Deputy will facilitate matters, we shall be glad.

I certainly will.

With that bit of Roscommon he has now, he should be nice to you.
