Vol. 241 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Rates Relief.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to introduce amending legislation to provide for a system of local rates relief for agreed categories of ratepayers.

The Local Government (Rates) Bill, 1969, which will, inter alia, enable local rating authorities to make schemes providing for the waiving of rates due by specified classes of ratepayers, was introduced in the Dáil on 24th April, 1969. Each rating authority was informed by circular letter dated 29th April, 1969, that the Bill would contain a provision validating the waiver of rates in the current year in accordance with any scheme made by the authority with my approval. It is proposed to reintroduce the Bill in the Dáil in the present session.
