Dáil Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 8 Jul 1969

Vol. 241 No. 2

Committee on Finance. - Committee on Finance.

I should explain what we are doing here now. As the House knows, we passed all those Financial Resolutions on Budget Day but they lapsed by the dissolution of the Dáil. We are reintroducing them now and, I hope, passing them prior to their being confirmed by the Finance Bill which we will have next week.

Is the proposal that the Budget debate will take place again?

It is not necessary in view of the fact that we have the Second Stage of the Finance Bill coming up next Tuesday.

Will the Minister explain to me why Financial Resolution No. 1 does not include the third part of that Resolution as passed on Budget Day?

The third part, the reference to the 1927 Act, does not now apply in view of what we have just done.

I thought that was required.

We have now provided for all this in the Collection of Taxes (Confirmation) Bill which we have just passed.

In other words, the Bill we just passed did not cover the period only up to that, but covered the period as from the dissolution until the date of the passage of the Finance Act.

Or four months forward.

That was not what was said a minute ago.

I am sorry if I did not put the position clearly.
