Vol. 242 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Shannaghmore-Shannaghbeg group water scheme at Glenamaddy, County Galway.

As I informed the Deputy in my reply to Question No. 24 on 12th February, 1969, the provision of an adequate source of water is the main obstacle to the implementation of this scheme. Since then the county council have indicated that they are not prepared to give an extension of the public supply at Glenamaddy. I am having the matter taken up with the local authority again.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Milltown, County Galway.

Galway County Council has agreed in principle to this proposal and the group have been asked to establish definitely the number of participants with a view to having a design prepared. An initial contribution of £10 per house has been collected, and when the design is available and costings prepared, the final contribution to be made by each participant will be determined. A pressure scheme is proposed using a natural spring source. This was tested by the county council and found adequate.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and location of applicants for group water schemes in the constituency of North East Galway; and the present position regarding each scheme.

Information in relation to group water supplies is not available on a constituency basis.

A statement covering schemes in County Galway as a whole is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Deputy.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the extension of the sewerage scheme at Gracefield, Portarlington, County Offaly.

I hope to be in a position to convey a decision on this proposal shortly.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the extension of the sewerage scheme in Edenderry town, County Offaly.

I asked the local authority last July to reconsider certain technical aspects of this scheme. Their further proposals are now awaited.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the extension of the water from Kilcormac town to Ballyboy, County Offaly.

I hope to be in a position to sanction this work shortly.
