Vol. 243 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin-Belfast Road.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there are any proposals before his Department for the realignment of the main Dublin-Belfast road.

As regards the County Dublin sector of the road, I would refer to my reply to Deputy P.J. Burke on 26th November in which I indicated that I had approved of schemes for a by-pass at Balrothery and for improvements to the section between Batter Lane and Balrothery. I also indicated that I was aware that Dublin County Council were preparing schemes of improvement for other sections of the road, including by-passes at Santry and Swords.

As regards the County Louth sector, a preliminary design for realignment of the section between Mullary Cross and Mullins Cross is under examination in my Department. I have recently approved, either in principle or in detail, of several schemes for other sections of the road in County Louth and also for a section in County Meath. I understand that Louth County Council and Drogheda Corporation are proceeding with the detailed preparation of schemes which have been approved in principle.

Would the Minister be able to say from his file if a by-pass of Drogheda is proposed in any of the schemes before his Department?

I have not any such proposal yet, at any rate. The proposals relate to the boundaries of Drogheda.

So, Drogheda will be ignored.
