Early last month I received a letter from the Chairman of the Council of the European Communities inviting participation by Ireland in a proposed programme of scientific and technological research, and asking for the Government's suggestions and comments on the programme before the end of the year. I have replied, welcoming this initiative by the member Governments, and accepting the invitation. The proposed programme is at present being studied in detail interdepartmentally.
