Vol. 244 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Pier.

8.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the estimated cost of the extension to the pier at Ballycotton, County Cork; when the borings were completed; and whether the Government now intend to carry out this extension which would prove of immense financial advantage to the local community.

The boring survey to which the Deputy refers was carried out in 1955 by the Cork County Council and at that time the cost of extending the pier at Ballycotton was estimated by consulting engineers employed by the council to be between £55,000 and £160,000. The scheme was not proceeded with and no further proposals were made to my Department.

There are no plans at present for improvement works at Ballycotton Pier but the harbour will be included in the survey which is about to be undertaken by a special survey team I am setting up to examine the fishing ports and fish landing facilities on the Cork coast.
