Vol. 245 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Houses.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government the date of Departmental inspection of the West Park Estate, Tallaght, County Dublin; the date of sanction of payments to the builder concerned; and if he is aware of many complaints from residents about the structure and finish of these houses.

Completed houses in this estate were inspected by my inspectors on various dates between 19th September, 1969, and 13th February, 1970. The inspection on the latter date was made to ascertain if defects noted in the course of an earlier examination had been rectified. In addition, work in progress was examined on 13th March, 1969. State grants were paid during the period from 7th November, 1969, to 17th February, 1970, in respect of the completion of 48 of the 49 houses. Complaints from residents in respect of a number of houses were received in my Department on 13th March, 1970, and are being considered.

In view of the many serious complaints in relation to this estate, might I ask the Minister if the Department have received any assurance from the builder concerned that the defects noted will be remedied?

I am not aware that there are any serious defects being complained of and I understand the Department do not expect any difficulty in having such defects as have been complained about remedied.
