Vol. 245 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Breeding.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what breed of cattle he considers the most suitable to produce in view of Ireland's entry into the EEC.

On entry into the EEC Britain should continue to be our main market for cattle and beef and for this market our present breeds of cattle are generally suitable. At the same time, trials and experiments are taking place with imported stock—and further importations are planned for this year—to adapt our breeding herd to changing market requirements.
