asked the Minister for Justice the cost of providing a State car for each individual Minister, giving mileage, petrol consumption, etc., for the period 2nd July, 1969 to the latest date for which figures are available and (b) the cost of same in respect of each Parliamentary Secretary.

The answer is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have published with the Official Report. The statement shows the mileage of each Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for the period from 2nd July, 1969, to 31st March, 1970, and the total cost in each case. The cost has been calculated on the basis of the average inclusive cost per mile. This is 2s 2d and covers petrol, oil, tyres, maintenance and depreciation, and also the salaries and subsistence allowances of the official drivers.
