Vol. 246 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Housing Scheme.

2.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position concerning the Carndonagh No. 3 housing scheme, County Donegal; the cause of the delay in having this scheme advertised; and if he is aware of the urgent need for housing in the Carndonagh area.

Plans for this scheme were received in my Department on the 14th instant and are under examination. There will be no delay in dealing with the proposal. I am aware of the need for houses in this area.

The Minister is aware that since 1948 no houses have been built at Carndonagh? It is known as the capital of Inishowen. Housing has reached a crisis point there. I hope the Minister will take more interest in this problem than he has shown in the recent past.

These plans are under examination. The urgency for the provision of houses is appreciated. This matter will be dealt with shortly. Deputy Harte will get no consolation from this scheme. The houses will be built in spite of Deputy Harte and to Deputy Harte's consternation the houses will be provided. I agree that there is no consolation for Deputy Harte in this.

The Minister has neglected his responsibility in this matter.
