Vol. 247 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway School.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance the reasons for the delay in opening the new school at Cummer, County Galway.

The erection of this new school is almost completed but there has been a hold up about the water supply. The arrangement which the school manager made with the county council to take a supply from a public pump has been superseded by a proposal now being dealt with to use this pump for a local group scheme which the school will join. It is anticipated that the school will have a supply after the holidays.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary to state the reasons? That was only one reason.

The school manager has already contributed considerably towards providing a supply for the school from the public supply. I take it the Deputy will agree that he should now join the group scheme.

I am aware of that. That is only one reason.

That is the reason. I have given it to the Deputy.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say what is the position in regard to the furniture in the school?

I can give that information. The school is virtually completed, the following items being outstanding (1) fit towel rails, (2) lay floor covering to classrooms, teachers' room and general purposes room—the floor covering has been delivered and should be laid within a week, (3) heating and electrical works should be completed within a week, (4) furniture—to be delivered this week, (5) site works— school site to be levelled and re-seeded —for completion in two weeks.

That is what I wanted.
