Vol. 247 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Estuarial Authority.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the present position regarding the setting up of a single estuarial authority for the Shannon Estuary; if special legislation will be necessary; and, if so, when it will be introduced.

I have received copies of a report which has been submitted to the Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary Regional Development Organisation by a committee representative of the harbour authorities and other interests in the area and which proposes the setting up of a joint committee for the purpose of formulating a scheme for a single harbour authority for the Shannon Estuary. Special legislation would be necessary to create a single authority and I await the submission of detailed proposals in the matter by the regional development organisation or the harbour authorities concerned.
