Vol. 248 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Castle Proposal.

83.

asked the Minister for Local Government what developments have taken place with regard to the proposal of the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited relating to King John's Castle, Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the proposal for the development of King John's Castle would involve the demolition of some local authority houses, the city manager requested the views of my architectural advisers on alternative development plans. These views have been conveyed to him. He has also been told that the replacement of any houses which may have to be demolished should be regarded as an integral part of the development project; that the corporation may facilitate the developers by making temporary housing accommodation available for persons who may have to be displaced while the development work and the building of replacement accommodation is proceeding; and that, if such facilities were to be provided by the corporation, their provision would not prejudice the payment of the appropriate subsidy on dwellings temporarily let to persons displaced by the development.
