Vol. 248 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Centenarian Gratuity.

25.

andMr. Power asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider having the present gratuity paid to centenarians increased to a realistic figure.

It is proposed to increase the bounty payable to centenarians from £5 to £50 with effect from the 1st August next.

While it is pleasing to hear of this increase, in view of the fact that so few are likely to qualify for this gratuity would the Minister not consider doubling it and giving those people £100, £1 for each year?

We are not doing so badly in increasing it tenfold.

There must be an election coming.
