Vol. 248 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA Uniform.

39.

asked the Minister for Defence if it is intended to issue shirts and ties to members of the ICA for use during periods of warm weather.

The issue of shirts and ties to members of the FCA for use during periods of warm weather is not at present contemplated.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware of the grave dissatisfaction in the Force as a result of this regulation? Considering that every other branch of the Public Service, the Army, the Garda and the ushers in this House have had this concession for years past, surely this force which is doing so much for the country should also get this concession?

I agree with the Deputy in his remarks about the FCA and the magnificent work they are doing. I entirely agree with the sentiments expressed in the question. If there is a regulation preventing members of the FCA from wearing suitably comfortable clothing in warm weather it is an out of date regulation and I shall have the matter investigated.

While we are awaiting the result of this investigation, would the Parliamentary Secretary make a regulation allowing the FCA to open the first button of their uniforms in warm weather or amend the existing regulation to that effect?

I shall certainly see what can be done.
