Vol. 248 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sludge Disposal.

57.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether commercial disposers of sludge have access to local authority facilities; if so, on what conditions; and whether he has made any regulations regarding this matter.

Commercial disposers of sludge have no right of access to local authority facilities. No regulations on the matter have been made.

Is the Minister aware that a private firm has advertised extensively both in the press and on the radio for the removal of sludge and for the clearance of septic tanks? Is he satisfied as to how this firm disposes of this sludge?

I am aware that Dublin Corporation have allowed certain operators of this type of business to dispose of their sludge on corporation property for a fee.

Is the Minister aware that this commercial firm conforms to any regulations concerning the disposal of this sludge?

That is a separate question altogether.

The Minister can be assured there is grave discontent among the population.
