Vol. 248 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway NBA Houses.

61.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the great dissatisfaction caused to workers of the Industrial Estate, Galway due to the high cost of National Building Agency houses now being erected; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the high cost of developed land and building generally in the Galway area is causing concern.

I am assured by the National Building Agency Limited that the prices of houses being provided by them in Galway, at the request of the Industrial Development Authority, compare favourably with the cost of comparable private enterprise houses in the area. The agency houses will be centrally heated and they are not subject to ground rent. I know that some houses sold by the agency in Galway to individual purchasers have been resold after relatively short periods at a substantial profit to the purchasers.
