Vol. 248 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Lorry Parking.

94.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider introducing regulations governing the parking of lorries in Dublin, such as having special stands allotted to them.

The control of on-street parking, including the specifying of streets or portions of streets in which parking of vehicles or any class of vehicle may be permitted, is a matter for the Garda Commissioner by means of bye-laws made by him after consultation with the local authority and with my consent. The prescribing of a special traffic sign, to be used in connection with bye-laws, to denote parking places for heavy vehicles is under consideration in my Department. As regards the general control and regulations of parking, general traffic regulations under section 60 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968, are being drafted in my Department. In this connection the need for specific provisions governing the parking of heavy vehicles is being considered.
