asked the Minister for Labour (a) the number of redundancies (distinguishing between men and women employees) notified to his Department in the first six months of 1970; and (b) the average lump sum redundancy payment.

The number of redundancies notified to my Department during the first six months of 1970 was 1,892, involving 1,380 men and 512 women.

The average lump sum payment in the same period is estimated at £144 6s 6d.
