Vol. 248 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Longford Bridge.

40.

asked the Minister for Finance what amount of money has been paid up to date for the bailey bridge across the Shannon at Lanesboro, County Longford.

Expenditure up to 31st March, 1970, in respect of the bailey bridge over the River Shannon at Lanesboro amounted to approximately £8,900.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary agree that this is money wasted and that steps should be taken immediately to provide a permanent bridge?

For the information of the Deputy, that is not the responsibility of the Office for Public Works. I understand tenders have been received and are being examined by the local authority which, in this instance, is Roscommon County Council.

On a point of order, I had a question down to the Minister for Finance which you disallowed. You disallowed it on the grounds that the Minister had no responsibility. I had written to the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries about this matter and he wrote back stating the matter was the responsibility of the Minister for Finance. The position is rather peculiar.

(Cavan): There was disagreement between the Ministers.

The Chair will look into Deputy Clinton's complaint.
