andMr. G. Lynch asked the Taoiseach the percentage by which the consumer price index in respect of food has increased since 1st November, 1968, to the latest date for which figures are available.

The food index constituent of the consumer price index rose from 100 at mid-November, 1968, to 115.1 at mid-August, 1970, or by 15.1 per cent. The index numbers are calculated in respect of a mid-month date.

asked the Taoiseach the percentage increase in the cost of living between mid-August, 1968, and mid-August, 1970.

Between mid-August, 1968 and mid-August, 1970 the consumer price index increased by 17.5 per cent.
