Vol. 249 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of serviced and non-serviced land available for domestic housing in the hands of each local authority.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of serviced land in the hands of each local authority available for leasing or purchase by private persons or building contractors.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 52 and 53 together.

Information on land held by local authorities is not available in the detail requested by the Deputy. Statistics of the numbers of housing sites held by local authorities are contained in the progress report of the local authority housing programme which is issued each month by my Department. In addition, the quarterly bulletin of housing statistics published by the Department contains statistics of land acquired by local authorities by agreement in the last three financial years and of the prices paid for this land.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a statement showing the total number of housing sites held or being acquired, at the end of September, by local authorities.

Following is the statement:

NOTE: The figures relate to both serviced and unserviced sites and do not include sites on which dwellings are currently in progress. They include sites which may be used for private house-building.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the number of approved applicants for rehousing under each local authority; and if he will direct that such information should be furnished to his Department at regular intervals by each local housing authority.

Housing authorities are no longer required to submit details of current housing applications in support of their proposals for individual housing schemes, and accordingly this information is not normally available in my Department. They are, however, required by the Housing Act, 1966, to make regular comprehensive assessments of housing needs and to adopt and submit building programmes to me, at intervals of not more than five years.
