Vol. 251 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Diplomatic Relations with Poland.

9.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if the establishment of diplomatic relations between this country and Poland has been considered; and, if so, with what result.

The question of an expansion of our diplomatic representation abroad and of foreign representation in Ireland is kept under continuing review. There are many factors to be taken into consideration including, of course, the costs that would be involved and the possibilities of improving our trade and other commercial prospects in certain markets. I do not feel that it would be appropriate or helpful to speculate in regard to the case of a particular country with which, as the Deputy will be aware, we are at present conducting trade negotiations.
