Vol. 253 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford School.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the proposed school strike at Kilmuckridge national school due to the deplorable condition of the school premises; what progress has been made with the proposal to build a new school there; and when building of the school is likely to commence.

Plans and specification for a new school at Kilmuckridge have been completed. Bills of quantities are being prepared and it is expected that tenders for the work will be invited next month.

When does the Parliamentary Secretary anticipate the school will be finished?

Assuming we get a contractor when we go to tender, I understand the work will start in about three or four months. How long it will take I could not say.

The Board of Works should know that. Is there anything that can be done in the meantime to make the school a little more habitable?

There is a scheme whereby managers can carry out certain works on their own initiative without coming to the Board of Works at all.

Has the manager informed the Board of Works of the condition of this school?

That I could not say.
