Vol. 253 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

85.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in respect of the proposed group water schemes at (a) Clonacody, (b) Cloghaleigh and (c) Poulmucca, County Tipperary.

There are no proposals before my Department for group water supply schemes in these areas.

86.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in respect of the proposed group water schemes at (a) Ahenny, (b) Magorban and (c) Ardgeeha, County Tipperary.

There is no proposal before my Department for a group water supply scheme at Ahenny.

A scheme to serve seven houses in Magorban by way of an extension from the public mains was mooted about 15 months ago. In January, 1970, my Department's inspector advised the group to engage an engineer to prepare a design for the scheme and to forward the completed design to my Department in due course. Nothing has been received from the group since then.

A scheme mooted for Ardgeeha in January, 1968, was abandoned in October, 1969, because a suitable source was not available.

87.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in respect of the proposed group water schemes at (a) Boreen Bocht, Cashel, (b) Clonoulty and (c) Clerihan, County Tipperary.

No proposal has been received in my Department for a group water supply scheme for the Boreen Bocht area in Cashel. About six months ago my Department's inspector attended a meeting in the area with a view to formulating a scheme to serve 12 houses by way of an extension from existing public mains. The group were to engage an engineer to prepare a design for the scheme and submit it to my Department. This has not yet been received.

The engineer engaged by the group is at present preparing a design for the Clonoulty scheme.

I assume that the Clerihan scheme mentioned is the group water supply scheme for Ballyclerihan, Clonmel. There has been no change in the position regarding this scheme since my reply to Question No. 55 of 16th July, 1970.

88.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in respect of the proposed group water schemes at (a) Toem and (b) Ballyluskey/Grange, County Tipperary.

No proposals for schemes in these areas are before my Department.

89.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for the provision of piped water to serve some eight families at Glasha, Ballymacerbry, Clonmel, County Tipperary; and what steps his Department or Waterford County Council are prepared to take to assist the people concerned by way of technical advice and grants to secure this much needed amenity by extending the water from the nearest piped supply or by implementing successfully a group water scheme.

A proposal for a group scheme in this area was received recently in my Department. My inspector has reported that a mains extension would be beyond the financial resources of the group. He has suggested alternative methods to the group and will visit them again after these have been considered.

90.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position with regard to the implementation of the Poulatar group water scheme in Ardfinnan, Clonmel, County Tipperary, and if it is proposed to give sanction to the revised plans which were submitted to his Department.

91.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will expedite sanction for the Poulatar group water scheme, Ardfinnan, County Tipperary.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 91 together.

The design for this scheme has been approved by my Department and Tipperary S.R. County Council, subject to the use of increased pipe sizes to enable the scheme to be integrated with the Ardfinnan regional scheme. I have approved of the making of a contribution of £4,600 by the county council to the group to meet the increased cost involved in complying with the council's requirements.

The group are now being advised to seek quotations for the necessary materials et cetera so that firm costings can be determined.

92.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position of the following group water schemes in County Roscommon (a) Killina and (b) Tulsk; when applications in respect of them were received; and what progress has been made to date.

It is assumed that the scheme in Killina is the Clooneyquinn group water supply scheme. This proposal was received in my Department in August, 1969. The design for the scheme has been approved and the group have been advised to seek quotations for the necessary materials et cetera so that firm costings may be determined.

The Tulsk proposal was received in my Department in June, 1970. Possible sources to serve the scheme are being investigated.

93.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Ratesk, Kilconly, Tuam, County Galway.

A scheme is being designed for the group. When this is received in my Department it will be examined and, if in order, will be submitted to the Galway County Council for formal approval.

94.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Menlough, Ballinasloe, County Galway.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question No. 48 of 16th February, 1971, about this scheme. The county council have since been asked to have further quality tests carried out on the council's borehole adjacent to Menlough village to ascertain if the water would be acceptable if chlorination were the only treatment required.

95.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a deputation from Fenit, Tralee, appeared before a meeting of the Kerry County Council some time ago; that the deputation protested strongly against the delay in providing a sewerage scheme for the district; that a resolution was passed by the County Council requesting his Department to provide the necessary money to implement the scheme; and, if so, if he will now state when the County Council will be in a position to invite tenders et cetera for the scheme.

I would refer the Deputy to his previous Question No. 59 of the 19th November, 1970, to which I have nothing to add.

96.

asked the Minister for Local Government when plans for the proposed sewerage scheme for the environs of Midleton, County Cork, were lodged in his Department; and when sanction will be given for this scheme.

Preliminary proposals for this scheme were submitted to my Department in November, 1968. As the local authority have not acceded to repeated requests to provide an integrated priority list of all their water and sewerage schemes in planning I cannot indicate when a decision on this proposal will issue.

97.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the proposed sewerage scheme for Saleen, Cloyne, County Cork.

I have already sanctioned Cork County Council's proposals for this scheme, including a loan to finance the work.
