Vol. 255 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Administration of Namibia.

6.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he has had the opportunity of studying the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legality of South Africa's administration of Namibia (South West Africa); and whether he will comment thereon.

The full text of the advisory opinion, requested by the United Nations Security Council, has only just come to hand. Ireland voted for the resolution in the United Nations General Assembly in 1966 which terminated South Africa's mandate for South West Africa (Namibia). We, therefore, welcome the International Court's opinion that South Africa is under obligation to withdraw its administration from Namibia immediately.
